Philip and Sally Gorton have created a website devoted to Compton history which is the result of their work over many years.

The latest additions to the Compton History website include an account of the Compton Club, which was first created at a meeting held in the Withies in 1928 and a history of the almshouses which stood between Polsted Lane and the school until the mid-nineteenth century.

It can be found on www.compton-history.uk.

Based on both documentary research and field work, it covers aspects of the Compton landscape, the houses within it and the people for whom they were home.

Sally and Philip take commissions to investigate and write the history of houses but, when they have some free research time, they like to do some work for themselves. Sally is also a professional artist and some of her Compton images ares included on the website.

It is not a static site and new material will be added as it emerges so don’t forget to revisit now and again.
